I am hoping that you're able to take the time to pray for my friend Nava's older brother. Here's an email I received from her a week or so ago. She may have started out my boss but she ended up becoming a great friend and cheerleader. Nava is who I want to be when I grow up - she is kind, generous, funny, warm and the smartest person I know. So any prayers for her and her family would be appreciated.
I am writing with some tough news about my beloved older brother Oded. Odie has been diagnosed with an aggressive mutated form of colon cancer and to our devastation it has metastasized to his bones. He underwent surgery yesterday in attempt to remove the tumour and undo a large blockage. Unfortunately the tumour could not be removed. He is currently recovering from surgery and when strong enough he will begin an aggressive form of chemotherapy. I am sharing this with you in the hopes that you can pray for him and do good deeds in his merit. Our family has never needed a greater miracle than we do right now and to know that our friends are praying for him means everything as we feel so helpless.
For those who are Jewish, Oded's hebrew name is Oded ben Karen Ruth. If you can recite tehillim, especially verse 20 (for the ill) and verse 37 (which is the verse from his Hebrew birthday) daily as well as pray with intention during the upcoming High Holidays, I would be most indebted. For those of you who practice other faiths, I would be eternally grateful if you can pray for him within your traditional ways for Oded to be blessed with good health, that he be immersed in strength and surrounded by joy and beauty in the days ahead.
Our family is heartbroken and so I ask to refrain from visitations or calls at this time…we are utterly drained and just need to concentrate on taking care of Oded and the family. For those of you in the city, some good friends have set up a meal management site to help cover dinners for the next while for my family. The link to the meal train is as follows: http://www.mealtrain.com?id=meuwm7tqx41t
To know my parents and Odie and his wife, especially, are covered in this respect takes a huge load off of an already very stressful time. G-d willing, Oded will be able to eat again soon more substantial foods and grow stronger to handle the treatment around the corner.
I wanted you all to know what is up and to forgive me for being MIA in the last while and in the foreseeable future. I love each and everyone of you very much and my heart thanks you a thousand times over in advance for praying for my brother. He is the one adult human being on this planet that I know who is so pure in his intentions and so kind to the core. To see him go through this is gut wrenching. May you never know this pain in your family, and may we all go from strength to strength.
