Vic starts his vacation after work today and doesn't go back again until after our Portland trip. I know he had his heart set on going to Vegas again but we just couldn't swing it financially, what with all the unexpected expenses with the cars, our Portland trip and paying for the rest of my courses :( I really wanted to go and visit Sarah and Bryan this year too but I'm not sure I'll be able to make it either. We (I) planned to go to the Philippines next year to visit family since it's been about 8 years since I've been back, the longest I've ever been away. My grandma's not getting any younger either and the last time I saw her was at my wedding almost 4 years ago. It breaks my heart a little because I grew up surrounded by family and now all my little cousins have grown up and I wasn't a part of their lives. I've banked up some holiday time so hopefully I'll be able to go for 2-3 weeks next summer.
This weekend is a busy one coming up - I accidentally double-booked myself on Saturday. Last year, I volunteered to be event photographer for Muscular Dystrophy's Walk for Life (Surrey) and since then, they've asked me to come back and photograph a few more events. This year is my second year with this particular event and it's always fun! I had no idea that Muscular Dystrophy even existed - it's a genetic disorder where the muscles in your body progressively denegerates until you lose the ability to walk, talk and breathe. There is currently no cure and it can be fatal. Amid all this, there are so many people with amazing stories, who are amazingly strong and amazingly positive so I'm really looking forward to the event.
At the same Bat-time but on a different Bat-channel, our church is holding its annual Year End Picnic and it really does promise to be a good time. Vic and I are starting to get a little more invested in the people at church, it really helps that the foundation for the worship team is a little more solid than it was even 2 months ago. The consistency of the same people every time is a lot of work but we're starting to know each other's musicality better and trust each other a lot more, which allows us to gel as a team and I think it's becoming more evident. It's also a lot more meaningful (and fun!) to go to church when you've built relationships with people who share the same faith. I digress; as staff, I was going to attend and also take pictures for our website but since I can't clone myself, Victor has kindly stepped up and is taking my place at the picnic instead. At least this way, I still get the pictures, Vic gets to spend some time connecting with people from the church.
Saturday night, we've got plans with the Thorntons (which I'm pretty excited about since I don't think I've seen them in a few months) and Kim is due in about 2-3 weeks so life gets that much more hectic for them.
