19 but God has surely listened
and has heard my prayer.
20 Praise be to God,
who has not rejected my prayer
or withheld his love from me!
- Psalm 66:19-20 (NIV)
Vic and I were definitely NOT expecting this; so much so since we had just come back from a road trip that involved all the no-nos (high thrill roller coasters, [some] alcohol, sushi :), etc. etc.).
I had been feeling a little weird while we were in California so actually took a pregnancy test there, which unsurprisingly was negative, so just chalked it up to vacation excitement and just being generally tired because we were out and about so much.
About a month later, I was still feeling a bit off but at the same time, my car had crapped out and I had just started a new project at work so thought it was stress. I was at the dollar store picking up a few things and saw the pregnancy kits there (a little weird to be getting a dollar store PK but hey, it was $1) so I picked up two just in case.
Did not expect to see a positive at all so when I went home and, lo and behold, it came out positive, I was in complete shock! I remember thinking, back when this was all just a dream, how I would tell Vic and had come up with some cute ideas but on the actual day, I just basically yelled at him to come to the washroom and then showed him the stick with the two pink lines. Lol. I think it hit him so much harder than it did me. This whole thing has been all so surreal.
We had talked about not telling anyone until we were past the three month mark, but since his mom is my MOA, Vic ended up telling her so that we could make an appointment with the doctor to confirm everything.
We had made an appointment on Saturday but the doctor was on call (she was waiting to deliver a baby) and so of course, the moment we got called for our turn, she got the call to go to the hospital. They did end up doing another pregnancy test there and the nurse who was there said that she believed I was pregnant but to come back again when my doctor was available. Very reassuring. :S
We came back a few days later to see my doctor and did another test. He came back and asked me if I had taken a test already at home; I said I did two. He mentioned that usually when they do these tests, the lines are there but they are faint and mine came out strong, so I must be further along than he initially thought. He sent us for a dating ultrasound in a week so we shall see how far along I actually am!
